Sin, The Spirit, & Circumcision of the Heart

Posted By on November 1, 2012

Q: What is the role of the Holy Spirit?

A: Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: (John 16:7,8)

Q: What is sin?

A: Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. (1 John 3:4)

Q: Can all sin be forgiven?

A: Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. (Matthew 12:31)

Q: What is blasphemy against the Spirit?

A: You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you. (Acts 7:51)

Q: In what way are we stiffnecked, and uncircumcised in heart?

A: And now, Israel, what does Yah your Mighty One require of you, but to fear Yah your Mighty One, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve Yah your Mighty One with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of Yah and His statutes which I command you today for your good? Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to Yah your Mighty One, also the earth with all that is in it. Yah delighted only in your fathers, to love them; and He chose their descendants after them, you above all peoples, as it is this day. Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer. (Deuteronomy 10:12-16)

Q: What will happen when our hearts are circumcised?

A: Now it shall come to pass, when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where Yah your Mighty One drives you, and you return to Yah your Mighty One and obey His voice, according to all that I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and with all your soul, that Yah your Mighty One will bring you back from captivity, and have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the nations where Yah your Mighty One has scattered you. If any of you are driven out to the farthest parts under heaven, from where Yah your Mighty One will gather you, and from there He will bring you.  Then Yah your Mighty One will bring you to the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it.  He will prosper you and multiply you more than your fathers.  And Yah your Mighty One will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love Yah your Mighty One with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. Also Yah your Mighty One will put all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who persecuted you. And you will again obey the voice of Yah and do all His commandments which I command you today. (Deuteronomy 30:1-8)

Q: What is our fate if our hearts are not circumcised?

A: Circumcise yourselves to Yah, and take away the foreskins of your hearts, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, lest My fury come forth like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings. (Jeremiah 4:4)

Q: What determines whether we receive the blessing, or the curse?

A: Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you obey the commandments of Yah your Mighty One which I command you today; and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of Yah your Mighty One, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known. (Deuteronomy 11:26-28)
